About Appraisal Ally

Built by a working appraiser, for working appraisers.

Appraisal Ally exists because my own appraisal business needed it and nothing on the market was built for the way a small business actually runs. I still write appraisals, and Prewitt Appraisals uses it daily. So can your business.

The story

From file folders in office baskets to one piece of software.

The short version: I built this for my own business first — here's how it happened.

01

Raised in the file room.

My dad has been an appraiser for over 45 years. I started working in his office at 16 — through high school, through college, then as his behind-the-scenes guy for years before getting licensed as a Certified Residential Appraiser in 2018. Back then, every file was a folder moving between baskets: one for research, one for comps, one for jobs ready to inspect. Old-school — but you always knew where every job stood.

02

The duct-tape years.

As we grew from one appraiser with assistants into a multi-appraiser office, the baskets went digital — badly. A Google Sheet as the appraisal log. Trello for the pipeline. Email and texts for everything else. Six places to check before anyone could answer 'where are we on this one?' — plus a bookmarks bar full of client portals to dig through and log into, one at a time.

03

Built for my own business first.

Appraisal Ally started as my fix for my own business. It has been the only tool I've used to run it since May 2025 — the kanban is those office baskets, every client carries its portal one click away, and the year-end numbers finally live where the work does. Until now it's been my personal tool. Now it's yours too.

We use it ourselves

The same product you'll use is the product running our business.

Not a side project. Not a beta we'll get back to. The kanban you see on the homepage is the same kanban I'm staring at on Monday morning.

  • Running our business since May 2025

Prewitt Appraisals has run entirely on Appraisal Ally since May 2025. Inspections, revisions, invoices, the kanban — same product you'll use.
  • A changelog you can actually read

Every release ships with a plain-English changelog inside the app, so you can see exactly what changed and when. No mystery updates.
  • Working appraiser on the standup

Jeff still inspects, still writes reports, still onboards clients. The product breaks for him before it breaks for you.

Where we stand on data ownership

Your client list is not our training set.

Cotality owns TOTAL and Mercury Network and monetizes downstream data. We don't. Your comp history, your client list, your fee structures, your engagement letters — none of it feeds an AVM. None of it gets sold.

We make money from subscriptions, not from your data. Full CSV and PDF export anytime, forever — built into the product, not gated behind a support ticket or a 90-day countdown.

“You shouldn’t have to read terms of service to know your client list is yours.”

Our continuity promise

The honest version, with no dated commitments we can't keep.

We don't claim source-code escrow. We do guarantee you can leave with everything, whenever you want, in formats that aren't locked to us.

  • Export on demand, forever.

Full CSV and PDF export of every record — appraisals, clients, AMCs, invoices, calendar history — built into the product. No support ticket required.
  • Read-only grace period.

Canceled accounts stay accessible read-only for 90 days. Reactivation restores everything. No pressure, no panic data dumps.
  • Independent and founder-led.

No outside investors. No acquisition pressure. No pivot risk. We make money from subscriptions, not from selling the company.
  • One founder — not one point of failure.

Straight talk: today it's just me. That's exactly why your data exports in one click and stays read-only for 90 days if you ever leave — so you're never trapped, even in a worst case. As the business grows, support grows with it.

Security, in specifics

What's actually true today — not what we'll certify next quarter.

We don't claim SOC 2 yet. When it's contracted with dates, it ships back in against signed evidence. Until then, here's what protects your data right now.

  • AES-256 at rest

Every record encrypted at rest in our managed Postgres. Standard for the appraisal data we hold.
  • TLS 1.3 in transit

All traffic between your browser and our servers is encrypted with current TLS.
  • US-East AWS via Supabase

Data resides in US-East AWS regions through our Supabase-managed Postgres. US-hosted, not offshored.
  • Row-level security on every table

Tenant isolation is enforced inside Postgres itself — row-level security on every query, tested on every deploy — not just at the application layer, so one company's data doesn't reach another's.
  • Stripe-handled card data

We never see or store card numbers. Stripe holds the PCI surface; we hold the invoice and the payout config.
  • Daily encrypted backups

Point-in-time restore on the database. Encrypted snapshots stored separately from the live tier.
